DCL seeks talented Scientific Writing and Document Design Specialists to join our team and enhance the visibility, accessibility, and impact of our research outputs.

Role Overview

We are seeking individuals with demonstrated expertise in scientific writing and document design, particularly within the public health domain. This role will involve crafting compelling manuscripts, reports, policy briefs, and other research-based documents that reflect the rigor and impact of our work. Additionally, candidates should possess strong skills in designing professional documents to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, and the public. Individuals will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to ensure our research drives action and informs global and local health policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and finalize scientific manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Translate research findings into various formats, including project and policy briefs, presentations, and infographics.
  • Design and format professional documents to ensure clarity, accessibility, and visual appeal.
  • Collaborate with the team and other researchers and subject matter experts to synthesize complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Stay up to date with publication standards and guidelines for high-impact journals.
  • Mentor and provide guidance on scientific writing and documentation best practices to team members.
  • Tailor communication materials to meet the needs of stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and community organizations.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Health, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in scientific writing, with a portfolio of completed products and/or published articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts without losing scientific rigor.
  • Strong proficiency in document design and visualization tools (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Familiarity with the public health landscape, frameworks and research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
